PENGERTIAN

Kata "news” dalam bahasa inggris bermakna berita. Tentunya hal ini tidak asing bagi kita. Para pakar Bahasa Inggris mendefinisikan news item text sebagai berikut: 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

“News items is a text that informs the readers about newsworthy or important events of the day.”

Artinya News item text adalah suatu teks yang menginformasikan pembaca tentang peristiwa/kejadian sehari-hari yang layak diberitakan atau penting. Newsworthy yang berati layak untuk diberitakan, jadi tidak semua kejadian/peristiwa bisa diberitakan. Hanya kejadian atau peristiwa penting saja yang layak diberitakan. Jika peristiwa/kejadian itu tidak penting maka tidak layak untuk diberitakan dan diketahui banyak orang. 

TUJUAN

Tujuan News Item Text adalah

“The purpose of news item text is to inform the readers about newsworthy or important events of the day.”

Tujuan news items text adalah untuk menginformasikan pembaca tentang peristiwa/kejadian sehari-hari yang layak untuk diberitakan atau penting. 

GENERIC STRUCTURE

Sama halnya dengan jenis teks bahasa inggris lainnya seperti narrative text, recount text, atau procedure text, news item text juga memiliki susunan atau struktur umun atau disebut generic structure. Generic Structure dari news item text adalah sebagai berikut: 

- Main event/News worthy event adalah berita utama, bagian yang menceritakan ringkasan dari suatu     kejadian atau peristiwa penting yang terjadi.

-  Background event/ elaboration menceritakan secara rinci latar belakang kejadian atau peristiwa yang terjadi, siapa yang terlibat, dimana dan bagaimana peristiwa terjadi.

-  Source merupakan bagian terakhir dari struktur news item text, merupakan sumber berita bisa berupa pernyataan narasumber, komentar saksi, pendapat para ahli, atau pernyataan dari pihak terkait dari suatu peristiwa.  

 

CIRI KEBAHASAAN

Di setiap teks bahasa Inggris yang berjenis News Item Text, terdapat ciri-ciri kebahasaan seperti berikut ini:

- Informasi singkat tertuang dalam headline

- Fokus pada kejadian

- Menggunakan action verb

- Menggunakan material process

JAKARTA, 24 October 2020 – As the world marks World Polio Day on 24 October, the World Health Organization (WHO) and UNICEF are urging nations to stay vigilant in the fight against poliomyelitis (polio) and bolster vaccination services.

Polio is a crippling and sometimes fatal disease with no cure. However, there are safe and effective vaccines and infection of polio can be prevented through immunization. Eradication of polio is based on preventing infection by immunizing every child until transmission stops and the country, region, and world is polio-free. Thanks to these vaccination efforts, cases of polio have been reduced by about 99% over the past decade.

Over the years, Indonesia has shown strong commitment and made significant progress towards polio eradication. However, the fight is not over, and challenges remain, including most recently the COVID-19 pandemic. Access to routine vaccinations and essential health services have been and continue to be disrupted during the pandemic. Misinformation along with community transmission of COVID-19 have raised parental concerns about the safety of visiting health clinics and immunization services, and eventually have led to decreases in attendance.

The importance of vaccination against polio and other vaccine-preventable diseases is heightened during this crucial period; to protect the gains already achieved and to sustain the polio-free status in Indonesia and the South-East Asia region.

“World Polio Day is a chance to acknowledge the relentless efforts of health workers to leave no child behind in providing life-saving polio vaccines, particularly, during the time of COVID-19. This day is also a timely reminder of the immense value of a safe, effective, and reliable vaccines. The polio vaccine, given multiple times, almost always protects a child for life and is the best way of preventing infection of this potentially fatal disease,” said Dr N. Paranietharan, WHO Representative to Indonesia.

"The fight against polio must continue – now more than ever given that COVID-19 has disrupted routine immunization across the country, including polio. Indonesia has achieved many milestones in polio eradication to date, helping children to live polio-free and reach their full potential. We must not stop working to make sure every child is protected from polio and all preventable diseases," said UNICEF Representative Debora Comini.

The EU is providing €20 million for a South East Asia pandemic response and preparedness programme. WHO will use the funds to continue supporting the governments of Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Thailand and Viet Nam.

“The European Union is one of WHO’s major partners, particularly in emergency response. This partnership will go a long way in ensuring that the South-East Asian Region builds back better during and after the COVID-19 pandemic and is stronger and more resilient in the years ahead,” said Dr Poonam Khetrapal Singh, WHO’s Regional Director for South-East Asia.

Federico Chiesa scored a brace as Juventus inflicted a first league defeat this season on Serie A leader AC Milan, ending its 27-match unbeaten run with a 3-1 win on Wednesday. Stefano Pioli's side maintained its one-point advantage over city rival Inter Milan who missed a chance to go top with a 2-1 loss at Sampdoria. AC Milan had been unbeaten since before the coronavirus lockdown last March, with a run of 12 matches without defeat to complete last season where they finished sixth, and 15 games this campaign.
